Friday Favorites

Sometimes I can hardly believe I’ve been blogging about food for over five years. In that time, the community has exploded. You can’t turn around on the internet without bumping into a food blog, and it’s kind of wonderful and inspiring. There are so many creative, smart, and funny people in the world! This week, I want to highlight some of my favorite recipes from the web.

1. The Pioneer Woman’s Roast Chicken. Who doesn’t love the Pioneer Woman? Hers was one of the first blogs I discovered when I started getting into food. She always posts simple recipes and makes them look so fabulous you want to rush in the kitchen and get started now. Like this week’s recipe for Roast Chicken. I never thought I’d need a new roast chicken recipe, but I love this butter-and-zest slathered chicken. I can already smell the rich citrusy bird roasting in my oven. I think we’ve got a Sunday Dinner contender.

2. The Kitchn’s Norwegian Lefse. I love flatbread. I love mashed potatoes. I have a new crepe pan that needs some love. This recipe for Norwegian Potato Lefse looks just right.

3. 101 Cookbook’s Tomato Tarte Tatin. We got a crazy amount of tomatoes from our CSA this week. I pictured tomato salads stretching out into eternity, and I yawned. Then I saw this recipe. The pie crust looks so flaky and perfectly browned, I can’t wait to try it. Thank you for saving me from another boring meal, Heidi!

4. Joy the Baker’s Dark Chocolate, Pistachio, and Smoked Sea Salt Cookies. This woman’s creativity never ceases to amaze me. It’s like she was born to be a baker. It’s in her soul. Smoked sea salt? Smoked sea salt?! Brilliant.

5. Ok, this isn’t a single recipe, but Ming Makes Cupcakes is such a cute, fun little blog. And I couldn’t pick just one of these luscious treats. Cupcakes might be yesterday’s news to some, but I still love picking up a little cake, just for me. I’m torn between the Vanilla Almond with Maple Cream Cheese Frosting and the Sour Cream Chocolate Cupcakes with Nutella Frosting. I might just have to make them both.

I haven’t been feeling that inspired in this kitchen this week, but I love that I can just turn on my computer and find hundreds of excellent home cooks to give me ideas when my own brain won’t produce them. Thank you, internet!
